Chloroquine (oral)(e.g. Anoclor®, Daramal®, Nivaquine®, Plasmoquine®, Promal®)

(For Plasmodium malariae)

(1 tablet = 150 mg chloroquine base)

Initial dose 600 mg, 300 mg after 6-8 hours, 300 mg 24 hours after initial dose, 300 mg 48 hours after initial dose.

Initial dose 10 mg/kg body weight, then 5 mg/kg at the same intervals as for adults.

Adult dose

Two chloroquine syrups are available for children (37,5 mg chloroquine base per 5 ml and 50mg chloroquine base per 5 ml). The initial dose is 10 mg/kg body weight, then 5 mg/kg at the same intervals as for adults. See package insert for dosages.

Primaquine (oral) (Zeneca Primaquine Phosphate®)

(For P. vivax and

P. ovale)

Chloroquine as above.

(1 tablet = 7,5 mg primaquine phosphate)

15 mg (2 tablets) daily for 14 days, following standard treatment.

Chloroquine as above.

Primaquine is contra-indicated for infants under 1 year.

0,25 mg/kg body weight daily for 14 days following standard treatment..
