(1  tablet = 500 mg sulfadoxine + 25 mg pyrimethamine)

3 tablets stat as a single dose.

Doxycycline  (oral)

(only in combination with quinine where necessary)

(e.g. Bok-c-lin®, Cyclidox®, Doxycyclin®, Doxylets®,

Doxymycin®, Dumoxin®, Theodox®, Viacin®, Vibramycin®)

(1  tablet = 100 mg doxycycline)

(1 capsule = 50mg, 100mg or 200 mg doxycycline)

200 mg stat and then 100 mg daily for 7 days or until blood smear is negative.

Contra-indicated  in children under 8 years.

4 mg/kg body weight stat and then 2 mg/kg daily for 7 days.

Chloroquine  (oral)

(e.g. Anaclor®, Daramal®,  Nivaquine®, Plasmoquine®, Promal®)

(I  tablet = 150 mg chloroquine base)

Initial dose 600 mg,

300 mg after 6-8 hours,

300 mg 24 hours after initial dose,

300 mg 48 hours after initial dose.

Initial  dose 10 mg/kg body weight, then 5 mg/kg at the same intervals as for adults.

 Adult dose

 Two strenghts of chloroquine syrup are available for children (37,5 mg chloroquine base  per 5 ml and 50mg chloroquine base per 5 ml). The initial dose is 10 mg/kg body weight,  then 5 mg/kg at the same intervals as for adults. See package insert for dosages.
