MRCMapping Web-GIS Application
The Health GIS Centre and Malaria department have developed a webGIS application.(http://www.mrcmapping.org.za) This provides basic GIS functionality over the internet, allowing the user to view spatial data, print maps and to do simple spatial analysis of data.
The application has a HealthGIS focus and provides data for South Africa including:
- health facilities
- schools
- population by magisterial district
- levels of access to water, electricity and sanitation by district council.
More data will be added as the application is developed.
A webmapping facility is also being set up for the Lubombo region as part of a Spatial Decision Support System, a project funded by the Department of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology Innovation Fund. This is currently under construction will be used as a planning and development tool by the Lubombo Spatial Development Initiative. See www.lubombomapping.org.za
