The Multilateral Initiative on Malaria (MIM) African Malaria Conference was the largest gathering of malaria experts ever to take place on the African continent, with nearly 900 delegates from 59 countries participating - a reflection of the tremendous enthusiasm from the malaria community within Africa for a forum of this kind. These countries spanned all regions of sub-Saharan Africa as well as collaborating countries outside Africa, particularly within Europe and North America. Delegates included scientists, malaria control personnel and health professionals, together with representatives of commercial companies and major funding agencies internationally. The international Steering Committee with significant African representation was chaired by the Director of the MRP.
